Global beauty giant L’Oréal has completed the acquisition of the outstanding shares of water tech startup Gjosa. The move aims to scale Gjosa’s innovative water-saving solutions for application in the beauty industry, aligning with L’Oréal’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
L’Oréal has been collaborating with Switzerland-based Gjosa since 2015, working together to develop water-saving technologies, particularly in the realm of shampoo rinse solutions. The recent acquisition reinforces L’Oréal’s dedication to environmental goals and emphasizes the integration of water-conserving technology into its products and Beauty Tech innovations.
Previous Collaboration and Water-Saving Technologies
During their collaboration, L’Oréal and Gjosa jointly developed shampoo rinse technologies, including a revolutionary shower head designed to use only 1.5 litres of water to rinse shampoo compared to the average 8 litres. Gjosa also played a pivotal role in the creation of the L’Oréal Water Saver shower head, introduced in 2021 as an in-salon hair care system and at-home beauty tool.
L’Oréal’s acquisition of Gjosa underscores its commitment to integrating sustainability into its offerings. By incorporating Gjosa’s water-saving solutions, L’Oréal aims to deliver beauty products with enhanced performance that are less resource-intensive, contributing to improved water management systems and technology in the beauty sector.

Nicolas Hieronimus, CEO of L’Oréal Group, expressed the significance of the acquisition, stating, “Acquiring Gjosa further strengthens our ability to build sustainability directly into our products and services, allowing us to seamlessly integrate water-conserving technology into new formulations and Beauty Tech innovations.”
L’Oréal’s collaboration with Gjosa dates back to 2015, with the acquisition signaling a deeper integration of Gjosa’s expertise and technologies into the broader L’Oréal ecosystem. The move is expected to lead to the rapid scaling up of sustainable beauty solutions with a focus on reducing environmental impact.
