Nabla, a Paris-based startup specializing in AI-driven tools for doctors, has secured $24 million in a Series B funding round to support its expansion in the United States. The funding, led by global venture capital firm Cathay Innovation and with participation from French investor Zebox Ventures, brings Nabla’s total funding to $43 million. The startup, founded by former Facebook AI Research engineer Alexandre Lebrun, focuses on providing doctors with an AI assistant, Nabla Copilot, capable of generating clinical notes from patient consultations.
Nabla Copilot operates by listening to clinical consultations and automatically drafting notes summarizing essential aspects of the interaction, including patient medical history, symptoms, diagnosis, and prescriptions. The technology, built on a large language model (LLM) similar to ChatGPT, boasts high precision, with only 5% of generated notes requiring adjustments. This innovative tool enables practitioners to significantly reduce the time spent on manual note-taking, potentially saving up to six hours per week.
The startup, which previously raised €17 million in 2021, has gained traction in the US market, securing a partnership with healthcare provider Kaiser Permanente to introduce Copilot to 10,000 physicians in Northern California. With the new funding, Nabla aims to further expand its presence across the entire United States. Currently, approximately 20,000 practitioners have adopted Copilot since its launch in March 2023, facilitating over 3 million consultations in multiple languages over the past year.
According to Lebrun, Nabla sees clinical documentation as just the beginning, with plans to leverage AI opportunities to support healthcare teams in various aspects. The recent funding round positions the healthtech startup to play a pivotal role in the evolving landscape of AI-driven healthcare solutions.
